It’s Independence day again! If you love Nourishing Traditions and America (like me) and you are searching for some nourishing recipes to make and enjoy this holiday, here are the best Nourishing Traditions recipe for the 4th of July!
1. Hamburgers
This classic, nourishing meal is one of my favorites. Hamburgers are the perfect main dish for a Nourishing Traditions 4th of July! Red meat is so nutrient dense and tastes amazing when cooked properly. Don’t be afraid of red meat despite what many people claim! Red meat has nourished humans for centuries. Use full fat, grass-fed ground beef or buffalo meat. Beef contains more saturated fats than bison, but I love the taste of bison! Figure out what you like best. You can add in some organ meat if you like for extra nutrients. To learn more about the wonderful benefits of eating organs read my post here.
How to make hamburgers: Form patties with your ground meat and cook over a skillet on medium heat or your preferred cooking surface. Cook for about 8 minutes on each side. There are so many nourishing options for toppings! Here are some yummy options:
- Fresh, organic tomatoes
- Home made ketchup (page 104 of Nourishing Traditions)
- Nourishing Traditions mayonnaise (recipe here)
- Caramelized onions in butter
- Raw cheese
- Sauerkraut
- Organic sprouted mustard
As for buns, homemade is best. You can even find recipes for sourdough buns!
2. Three bean salad
This classic American picnic dish is even better Nourishing Traditions style! To make Nourishing Traditions three bean salad you’ll need to soak all your beans to remove the phytic acid. You can find the recipes for all these beans here.
- Kidney beans page 496
- Chickpeas page 505
- French beans page 369
You’ll also need Garlic dressing page 129. Once you’ve got all your beans soaked and ready, all you need to do is add some red onions, parsley, lemon juice, and peppers, and there ya go! The full recipe is on page 504 of Nourishing Traditions.
3. Corn on the cob
You can’t have a Nourishing Traditions 4th of July without corn on the cob! Corn on the cob with butter is the perfect side dish for your Nourishing Traditions 4th of July! You can cook corn on the cob on a barbeque, in the oven, or in a frying pan (page 382) or cook your corn off the cob. There are two recipes for corn off the cob in Nourishing Traditions:
- Indian style Corn Off the Cob (page 383)
- Mexican Style Corn Off the Cob (page 382)
4. Ginger Ale
If you can find all the ingredient, Nourishing Traditions Ginger Ale is so refreshing and perfect for summer! It requires a few special ingredients like Rapadura and Whey, but if you can find those, definitely make this refreshing drink! Once you’ve got your ginger ale, you can water it down with some sparkling water. You can find the recipe for Nourishing Traditions ginger ale on page 586.
5. Mayonnaise
You’ve gotta have mayo! I love putting mayonnaise on my hotdogs and hamburgers. However, you’ll need it if you are making potato salad or another salad for your Nourishing Traditions 4th of July.
Most mayo you find in grocery stores is full of processed, nasty seed oils and unnecessary preservatives. Making your own takes no time at all and only a few healthy ingredients! You can even make different variations on the flavor of your mayo. Find the recipe for Nourishing Traditions mayonnaise on page 137 of Nourishing Traditions, or you can find my recipe here.
